Diverse music, Spoken word, Comedy, Visual art

SEED, an acronym for "Sharing Everyone's Excellent Diversity", is an Agora-sponsored, community-oriented coffee house that showcases local and sometimes touring artists at the turn of each season. Audience members, seated at round, candlelit tables, enjoy the diverse offerings of musicians, writers, comedians, actors, dancers, and visual artists.  Shared talent, the company of friends, and complimentary refreshments, combine to create a truly memorable evening.

A favourite calendar event since 2004, SEED attracts an all age audience. The cover is $5 (unwaged: pay-what-you-can), with profit supporting a local charity. SEED usually happens on the last Saturday of October (Autumn SEED), January (Winter SEED), April (Spring SEED), and July (Summer SEED), at 8 pm sharp. For more information, including upcoming SEEDs and a list of featured artists, visit MySpace and Facebook.

How does SEED happen? With help in the following areas:

Refreshments & Coffee - make coffee & hot water, replenish refreshment table, run dishwasher, keep things clean.

Food Donations - Bring a plate of sweets or appetizers.

Sound - set up sound system, run board, do soundchecks with artists.

Décor Leader - use decorative materials to create a special atmosphere.

Décor Helper - set up tables & decor (under direction of Décor leader), put tables away at closing, vacuum/sweep and re-set chairs if necessary.

Emcees - gather bio information from artists, introduce them onstage, make announcements.

Visual Art Supporters - arrange digital images for on-screen display (training is available for this easy task), accommodate physical displays.

Door People - greet and direct guests toward available seats, collect donations, encourage guests to sign book, sell artists' CDs and keep a record, count/record donations.

Artist Recruitment - search for quality artists in the community (high profile or emerging), introduce them to SEED, connect them with Artist Liaison. The SEED format is 3 musical acts (20 min each), 2 non-musical acts (5-7 min each), and one visual artist.

Promotion - design a poster and/or hand-bill, spread the word among personal networks (we can all do this).
